Aftercare
Congratulations on your new tattoo.
Look after your tattoo so it heals well and looks its best for years to come
First few hours
- Keep the initial bandage on for the time advised by your artist (this may be a few hours or overnight depending on the product used).
- Keep the area clean, dry and avoid excessive movement or rubbing.
- If the bandage becomes loose, leaks or causes irritation, remove it.
Cleaning
From day 1
- Wash your hands before touching your tattoo.
- Gently clean the area with lukewarm water and an unscented, fragrance-free soap.
- Use your hands – do not use a flannel, sponge or anything abrasive.
- Pat dry with a clean paper towel and let it air dry for a few minutes before moisturising.
Moisturise
For 2–3 weeks
- Apply a thin layer of a fragrance-free tattoo aftercare product or simple, unscented moisturiser.
- Keep the area moisturised – not too dry and not over-moisturised.
- Apply 2–4 times a day, or as needed.
- Use clean hands every time.
Avoid
For 2–3 weeks
- Direct sunlight, sunbeds and tanning.
- Swimming pools, hot tubs, saunas and steam rooms.
- Picking, scratching or rubbing the tattoo.
- Tight clothing that may cause friction.
- Heavy exercise / sweating for the first few days.
- Alcohol (especially in the first 24–48 hours).
Healing time
2–4 weeks
- Your tattoo will typically take 2–4 weeks to heal on the surface.
- Some redness, swelling, peeling and light scabbing is normal.
- Do not pick at scabs or peeling skin – let it come off naturally.
- The tattoo may look dull or cloudy while healing – this is normal and the true detail will appear once fully healed.
